The Dark Crystal sketches

I have 3 weeks to work and finish a movie poster for one of my illustration classes. And I choose the Dark Crystal, one of my fav movies from my childhood. Though dark and slightly scary for a kid's film (and Henson film no doubt) I loved it. Hell, Return to Oz was top on my list as a 6 year old So far it's in 'rough sketch' form, so I've been doing lots and lots of sketches of the characters that will be featured in the poster. The skeksis are fun and so very very evil. Gotta love Chamberlain's constant smile. The sketches are slowly gettin' there, but I need more practice. I even bought the concept art book by Brian Froud last weekend and its been my bible, along with the dvd of the film, to help me get a design down for the poster. We have to do one in the style of C.F Payne or Mark English in colored pencil (yey!). That entails putting down oil and gesso washes and prepping the surface for the colored pencil to melt into the board. It's fasinating, but a lot of work. I love this movie so I am determined to do a good job. Gotta get crackin' on the Gelfings....
